DUCK EGG FARMS IN INDONESIA
2021-12-01
December 2021 - In a partnership with We Animals Media, this investigation in Java Island exposed for the first time the shocking reality of duck egg farms in Indonesia. The investigation shows ducks confined in tiny cages, unable to walk or express their natural aquatic behavior, with signs of heat stress, and frustration. Other scenes also include ducks living in squalor surrounded by dead bodies and excrement, dying without proper veterinary care, and exhibiting skin problems, open wounds, missing feathers, and bloodied. In slaughterhouses and markets, animals had their throats slit while still fully conscious and could watch others being killed right in front of them while they waited for their turn. This work is part of our ongoing efforts of Act for Farmed Animals coalition and with the NGO Animal Friends Jogja in Indonesia to encourage many stakeholders and government officials to make cage-free policies that can accommodate better protection of animal rights.
