Cencosud’s Egg suppliers in Argentina

2022-11-01

An investigation conducted by Sinergia Animal in 2022 brought to light the terrible conditions in which eggs sold by Cencosud in Argentina are produced. Investigators found hens living in dirty battery cages: a system in which each hen has so little space that they can’t display natural behaviors such as nesting, spreading their wings, and walking freely.
One of the hens was found with signs of vent prolapse. Other hens were found dying on the floor of these places or stuck in piles of feces. In an interview, a farm worker describes how they starve hens for up to seven days to increase their productivity, a common and cruel practice within the egg industry known as ‘forced molting’, which can cause high mortality rates.
Sinergia Animal asks supermarket chains Disco, Vea and Jumbo, owned by Cencosud, to abolish cages in their supply chain.
